25: The Year of Growth
Birthdays often present an opportunity to look back and reminisce on what the past year (or years) have turned out like. Upon rowing my active recovery row this morning, I decided to use that time to reflect on the past year - afterall, it has been a crazy year, and I’ve encountered the most growth in a year as an individual than I ever have before.
Some growth highlights from 2012 that...

“Have you ever thought that maybe the pressure you put upon yourself is a block for you to perform the way you actually can? .. You write these words like “trust” and “believe” to motivate yourself, but do you actually trust yourself to do what we all know you can do? .. You need to let go. You need to stop thinking about where you want to go and just (fucking) go...

believe|achieve
That’s the difference one year makes. TRUST - the word written under my rings last year during 12.4. TRUST - meaning, I didn’t trust myself to get up over the rings. Achieving those muscle-ups were only something I half believed in. Last year I finished with four muscle-ups, and seven attempts.
This year as 13.3 was released, I knew it was going to be different. I was frothing at...

Upward and Onward
Here We Go Again. I just celebrated my one-year “CJversary.” It’s just been over a year that I’ve worked under CJ Martin of CrossFit Invictus. There was no better way to celebrate than competing this past weekend in Synergy’s Bridge City Beat Down - the same competition I competed in shortly after taking CJ on board a year ago.
After the best collective performance...

"Rest"
So this is what rest feels like. Low(er) volume leaves me some time to actually have some hobbies and do some things I enjoy that normally get tossed aside.
In the last few weeks, I’ve read a handful of books, and that’s incredibly odd of me. I don’t normally have the patience for reading, but I’ve devoured about 6 books. Not bad for this ADD child. I’ve also had...

Identity
I thought I had a pretty good grasp on who I was. For as long as I can remember, basketball has always been the center of who I am. It defined me. The person I am today is pretty much because of basketball and all things that revolve around the sport. Basketball taught me respect, humility, confidence, and many other things. It gave me the grit and the ability to put my head down and push. It...

Focused for WOD 3.
I’ve had this empty blog post open for about three days now. I started to write things over and over, only to erase it each time. People around me keep asking me, “So, how was Regionals?” And I really don’t know what to say. It strikes me as odd, that I can’t quite come up with an answer, when this is something I’m so...

FEAR
Yesterday I sent out a tweet asking how one overcomes their fears. Fear is a crazy thing. I thought I originally had such a strong feeling toward handling fear, as my fear mantra has always been:
Fear isn’t a good enough reason not to do something.
In this instance, my perspective on fear was different. Fear manifests itself in all kinds of different forms - it can be unfamiliar...
